Among the prominent branches of the Mo family of Pinghu was that of Mo Fangmei, also known as Mo Zhaoxiong, owner of the Mo Family Manor. First constructed in 1897, the manor is now designated a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. Mo Fangmei was accomplished in painting, calligraphy, and seal carving, and was also an avid collector. In 1900, Wu Changshuo carved the seal "Dushan Mo Fangmei chen di er" (獨山莫放梅臣第二) for him, reflecting the Mo family's close connections with prominent artists and seal carvers of the late Qing period. 此印取壽山石隨形而製，石色溫潤，章身依石勢淺刻紋飾。印面篆書「平湖莫氏寸草廬考藏書畫印」，為平湖莫氏「寸草廬」所用之書畫考訂、鑑藏印。印側刻「丙辰午月三日，吳門徐星州乍」，其中「乍」為古文字用法，通「作」；丙辰即民國五年（1916）。另一側刻「己巳七月望前二日，伯年正」。 徐星州即徐新周（1853-1925），字星州，江蘇吳縣人，吳昌碩弟子，以篆刻著稱。平湖莫氏於晚清以莫放梅一族尤具代表性。莫放梅即莫兆熊，字放梅，為平湖莫氏莊園主人。莫氏莊園始建於清光緒二十三年（1897），現為全國重點文物保護單位。莫放梅善書畫、精篆刻，並富收藏；1900年，吳昌碩曾為其治「獨山莫放梅臣第二」印，反映出平湖莫氏與晚清金石書畫名家之間的密切交遊。 细图链接:高清細圖鏈接：https://oag.smugmug.com/204-Sept-Day2
