Reclining gracefully on his right side, the Buddha displays refined facial features, harmonious proportions, and elegantly flowing drapery characteristic of Northern Wei artistic traditions. The sculpture reflects the distinctive fusion of Gandharan influences and early Chinese aesthetics that shaped Buddhist art during one of the most formative periods in its history. Surviving traces of original polychromy further enhance its rarity and historical significance. Monumental Northern Wei stone Buddhist sculptures are exceptionally scarce and are highly prized by leading museums and sophisticated private collectors worldwide.
