Dimension:H:22cm (8.66 inches), Diameter:24cm (9.45 inches), 14th Century Condition & Provenance:Intact overall, with smooth lustrous glaze and vivid cobalt tone bearing characteristic iron-black spots. Minor natural wear to the rim and foot. Private Collection, London, UK Description:Of exceptionally rare form, this vessel is modeled as a domed Mongolian tent (yurt), with a rectangular aperture cut into the lower body, likely serving as a ritual stand or reliquary. The entire surface is painted in imported Sumali blue cobalt. The top is decorated with scrolling floral vines, while the shoulder is divided into multiple ruyi-shaped panels enclosing phoenix among peonies and praying mantis amidst grasses and flowers, rendered with spontaneous, vigorous brushwork. Dark iron-black speckles appear where the cobalt is concentrated, a hallmark of Yuan blue and white. A band of upright lotus petals enclosing auspicious emblems runs around the lower body, separated by double lines, clearly dating the piece to the Yuan period. Densely composed yet never cluttered, this is a remarkable example of Yuan dynasty blue and white porcelain combining high artistic merit with significant historical value.
