Provenance: Private Collection, California, USA Description: This elegant Ge-type cup features a gently flared rim, shallow rounded body, and a small foot, with a distinctive loop handle extending from one side. The refined and graceful shape represents a classic Song and Yuan dynasty scholar’s vessel and wine cup form. The entire piece is covered in a warm beige Ge-type glaze with a thick, soft texture and a subtle inner glow. The surface displays the iconic Ge kiln crackle pattern, with dark iron-wire lines intersecting with delicate golden-thread crackles, creating a rich layered effect and a timeless antique character. The thin glaze along the rim reveals traces of the darker clay body, forming the naturally occurring “purple mouth” characteristic associated with Ge ware. The handle is smoothly modeled with a hollow loop design for comfortable handling, harmoniously integrated with the body. The neatly finished foot reveals a deep-toned clay base with an aged surface appearance. Celebrated for its unique crackle aesthetics, Ge ware represents one of the highest achievements of Song dynasty ceramics. With its rare handled form, complete golden-thread and iron-wire crackle decoration, this piece combines practical function with refined scholarly elegance and represents a fine example of Ge kiln craftsmanship.
