The flared lobed rim features six pointed sections, while the body follows with vertical ribbed contours flowing from the rim into the shallow curved basin. A broad flared foot provides balance, creating a graceful silhouette that reflects the refined aesthetic of the late Tang and Five Dynasties periods. The entire vessel is covered with a soft gray-green celadon glaze, displaying a warm and understated surface with natural patina and earth-toned traces accumulated over time. The interior features finely carved double butterfly decoration, with two butterflies facing each other and their wings spreading gracefully. The delicate carving technique is simple yet expressive, representing the fine-line engraving style associated with Yue kiln ceramics. The butterfly motif conveys auspicious meaning and is an especially elegant design among Five Dynasties Yue wares. The flat base and exposed foot reveal original firing supports, an important characteristic of Yue kiln production during this period. Known as “Secret Color Ware,” Yue kiln reached its artistic height during the Five Dynasties. This carved celadon washer combines refined form, scholarly function, and historical significance, making it a highly desirable example of early Chinese celadon.
