The bowl is covered with a warm olive-green celadon glaze with a soft, understated tone and natural age-related crackling throughout. The interior is decorated with a carved chrysanthemum medallion at the center, with finely carved scrolling floral motifs extending across the inner wall. The flowing floral patterns are executed with sharp and confident carving, enhanced by delicate comb-texture details that create rich layers and a lively sense of movement. The exterior features evenly spaced vertical chrysanthemum-petal carvings that complement the interior decoration, showing the sophisticated decorative approach of Yaozhou kilns. The neatly trimmed foot remains unglazed at the base, revealing the fine pale clay body and original firing characteristics. Known for its distinctive “knife-carved through the glaze to reveal the body” technique, Yaozhou ware represents one of the highest achievements of Northern Chinese celadon production. This bowl combines elegant form, refined glaze, and masterful carving, making it an important example of Song Dynasty northern celadon artistry.
