The unglazed foot retains its original ceramic texture and aged appearance. Provenance: Private Collection, New York, USA Description: This Southern Song Longquan bowl features a broad mouth rim, gently recessed opening, rounded body, and a neatly finished foot, creating a balanced and elegant silhouette. The entire vessel is covered in a soft Longquan celadon glaze with a refined bean-green tone, a smooth luminous surface, and subtle natural glaze bubbles that enhance its depth and character. The slightly thinner glaze along the rim reveals a delicate warm-toned body edge, creating the classic “revealed edge” effect seen on fine Longquan wares. The exterior is fully decorated with rhythmic carved spiral comb patterns, arranged in evenly spaced concentric curves that flow naturally around the rounded body. The carving is precise and fluid, creating rich variations of light and shadow across the surface. Two fine horizontal lines beneath the rim add visual structure and contrast with the spiral decoration. The interior remains undecorated, preserving a simple and elegant appearance with subtle throwing marks from the forming process. The foot is carefully shaped, with the exposed clay showing a warm orange-brown tone, dense texture, and traces of natural aging from firing and burial conditions. With its refined carving technique and understated celadon beauty, this piece represents the sophisticated craftsmanship of Southern Song Longquan ware and would have served as an elegant scholar’s object, such as a brush washer or small vessel.
