Provenance: Private Collection, New York, USA.Description: This elegant Ge-type washer is formed in a refined hexagonal shape with a wide folded rim, straight sides, shallow body, and five supporting animal-shaped feet. The carefully balanced structure and crisp angular lines make it a classic scholar’s object, suitable for use as a brush washer or incense tray. The entire vessel is covered in a warm beige Ge-type glaze with a rich and smooth texture. The surface is decorated with naturally developed crackles, featuring dark iron-like lines intertwined with lighter golden tones, creating the famous “gold thread and iron wire” effect. The crackle pattern varies naturally in density and penetrates deeply into the glaze, giving the piece a strong sense of age and character. The sharp transitions of the hexagonal form and the precise craftsmanship reflect the refined production standards of traditional Chinese ceramics. The interior and exterior glaze tones are consistent, with a soft and understated shine rather than a bright reflective surface. The center of the base is left unglazed, revealing the ceramic body with aged brown firing marks and traces of long-term use. Combining elegant form, distinctive glaze effects, and sophisticated crackle aesthetics, this Ge-type washer represents the refined taste of traditional Chinese scholars and the timeless beauty of classical ceramics.
