Provenance: Private Collection, Virginia, USA.Description: This Yuan dynasty Jun kiln tea bowl features the classic restrained-mouth form, with a slightly inward-curving rim, a rounded full body, and a low foot. The compact and substantial silhouette, combined with its soft flowing lines, reflects the practical tea ware style popular during the Jin and Yuan periods. The entire interior and exterior are covered with a warm, thick sky-blue Jun glaze with delicate natural crackling throughout, creating a soft and misty surface appearance. A striking purple-red kiln transformation mark naturally spreads from the center of the interior, radiating outward like a cloud of colored mist. The transition between purple-red and blue-purple tones is smooth and spontaneous, creating rich layers of depth and a naturally formed artistic effect. Scattered brownish markings and flowing glaze trails across the surface were created during the firing process, adding rustic charm and character. The thinner glaze along the rim reveals a subtle light beige edge, a distinctive feature of Jun ware. The glaze stops above the foot, exposing the pale clay body at the base. The clay is firm and dry, while the simple trimming of the foot preserves the characteristic craftsmanship of Yuan dynasty Jun kiln wares from regional kilns. Jun ware is celebrated for the saying “one color entering the kiln, countless colors emerging from the kiln.” The naturally formed purple splash on this bowl cannot be replicated. With its pure sky-blue ground, expressive purple transformation, complete form, and refined antique appeal, this bowl represents a fine example of Yuan dynasty Jun kiln ceramics.
