The entire surface is decorated using fine repoussé and engraving techniques, while the interior remains plain and functional. The exterior and cover are richly ornamented with intricate designs, including a finely textured stippled ground that creates a luxurious surface effect. The top of the cover presents two distinct decorative compositions. One side depicts a graceful mandarin duck and bird scene among lotus ponds, with a pair of mandarin ducks standing closely together as the central motif. The finely detailed feathers, surrounding birds, blooming flowers, branches, and landscape elements create a harmonious composition filled with elegance and symbolic meaning. The opposite side features a continuous scrolling floral design with elegant vines extending outward from the center, incorporating floral motifs and ginkgo-like leaves. Select areas are enhanced with gilding, creating a striking contrast between the darkened silver surface and brilliant golden decoration. The sides of the box are decorated with additional floral scroll patterns, maintaining a unified artistic style throughout. Crafted with engraved silver and partial gilding techniques, this incense box displays strong contrasts between silver and gold tones. The precise engraving, intricate decoration, and naturally aged patina reflect the exceptional craftsmanship and refined aesthetic of Tang dynasty metalwork. It combines practical function with outstanding artistic and historical value.
