Provenance: Private Collection, Hong Kong.Description: This vase features the classic meiping form, with a small mouth, rolled rim, short neck, broad shoulders, and a gracefully tapering body that narrows toward the base before slightly flaring outward. The sturdy foot and tall, elegant profile create a powerful yet refined silhouette, representing one of the most iconic vessel forms used for wine storage and display during the Song and Yuan periods. The entire surface is covered in a rich, glossy black glaze with a thick and luminous quality. The glaze is decorated with dense silver-gray oil-spot crystal formations, evenly scattered across the dark surface in varying sizes, creating a striking layered effect characteristic of fine oil-spot ware. The rim is fully glazed, while the lower body features natural glaze drips near the foot, forming irregular flowing patterns created during firing. The unglazed base reveals a warm yellow-brown clay body with a dry, firm texture and visible wheel marks, preserving the authentic character of traditional kiln production. Free from additional decoration, the vase relies entirely on its elegant form and the natural beauty of the oil-spot glaze transformation. The deep black surface, star-like crystalline patterns, and restrained aesthetic combine practical function with exceptional kiln artistry, making it a fine example of northern Chinese black-glazed ceramics.
