From a private collection in New York, USA.,Description: This impressive Tang Dynasty sancai glazed pottery vessel represents the vibrant and sophisticated ceramic craftsmanship of the High Tang period. The piece features a wide mouth rim, short neck, rounded full body, raised foot, and four loop handles around the shoulder, designed for practical carrying and storage. Its generous proportions and powerful silhouette reflect the typical forms of Tang Dynasty utility vessels. The neck is covered with a rich amber glaze, while the body displays the iconic Tang sancai splashed-glaze technique, combining green, amber, and creamy white tones that flow naturally across the surface, creating a lively and spontaneous kiln effect. The glaze shows natural fine crazing and an aged appearance that enhances its historical character. The body is decorated with molded appliqué designs, featuring a large raised lotus-inspired floral motif with curling leaves and layered relief details, surrounded by smaller auspicious animal and floral ornaments. A raised horizontal band separates the decorative sections, creating a balanced and elegant composition. The lower body and foot reveal the original pale pottery surface, showing natural weathering and soil deposits consistent with age. The Buddhist-inspired floral motif symbolizes purity, prosperity, and good fortune, and was one of the most celebrated decorative themes of the Tang period. Combining colorful sancai glazing, three-dimensional molded decoration, and a classic multi-handle vessel form, this rare piece represents the artistic achievement and luxurious aesthetic of Tang Dynasty ceramics.
