Provenance: Private collection in Georgia, USA.,Description: This piece is a fine example of ancient low-fired green lead-glazed ceramic, featuring a distinctive exotic style that reflects the artistic exchange between China and the outside world. The vessel has a rounded globular body with a matching glazed cover topped by a jewel-shaped finial, standing on a circular foot. The overall proportions are balanced, dignified, and elegant. The entire surface is covered with a rich deep green lead glaze, with a thick glaze layer and naturally formed fine crazing that enhances its antique appearance. The lower section reveals areas of light beige ceramic body with natural weathering and aged surface characteristics. The decoration is complex yet carefully organized. The rim of the cover and the upper and lower sections of the body are decorated with rows of pointed studs. Vertical arrangements of beaded circular motifs divide the body into decorative sections. Four sides feature molded and applied Hu figure masks, with clearly defined facial features, expressive eyes, brows, and beards, surrounded by beaded borders that reflect strong Silk Road influences. The stud motifs served both decorative and symbolic purposes, while the Hu figures represent the cultural exchange between China and foreign civilizations during the prosperous Tang Dynasty. The tall jewel-shaped finial, cord-pattern divisions, and stud decoration on the cover harmonize perfectly with the body decoration. Created through molded and applied relief techniques, the piece displays strong three-dimensional sculptural quality. With its solemn glaze tone, orderly composition, and combination of practical function, religious symbolism, and foreign artistic influence, this covered jar represents a valuable example of Silk Road cultural interaction.
