With its slightly flared rim, rounded body, and low sturdy foot, the bowl presents the balanced and elegant proportions favored for traditional Song dynasty tea ceremonies. The interior and exterior are covered with a deep black glaze featuring a rich lacquer-like surface, scattered with fine silver-colored speckles that create a subtle starry effect.
