Provenance: Private Collection, Florida, USA.Description: This elegant vertical rectangular porcelain plaque is painted in the famille rose palette and preserved within its original two-tone lacquered wooden hanging frame. The outer frame is finished in cinnabar red lacquer with a black lacquer inner border and fitted with a metal hanging loop, making it a classic decorative porcelain panel for traditional Chinese interiors. The porcelain surface is covered with a smooth white glaze and decorated with a flowering chrysanthemum and bird composition in the modern famille rose technique. The composition is carefully balanced, with clusters of autumn chrysanthemums blooming at the lower left. Yellow, pink, and white flowers are layered with refined shading, while the leaves are rendered with delicate variations of light and shadow. Branches extend upward with small red blossoms, supporting two birds—one looking upward and the other resting quietly. Their feathers are outlined with ink washes, creating a vivid and natural sense of movement. The right side features elegant calligraphy reading “Eight Hundred Thousand Autumns,” with the inscription “Spring of the Xinwei Year, painted in imitation of the style of Xinluo Shanren, Baitao at Zhushan,” followed by a red artist’s seal. The imagery of chrysanthemums and birds conveys wishes for longevity and lasting prosperity. The work reflects the literati-inspired flower-and-bird painting tradition associated with Hua Yan’s style, combining refined colors, expressive brushwork, and the distinctive aesthetics of Republican-era porcelain art. The original wooden frame, lacquer decoration, and hanging hardware remain complete, allowing the piece to be displayed directly.
