Provenance: Private Collection, New York, USA.Description: This rectangular porcelain plaque features a winter landscape scene and is presented in its original two-tone wooden hanging frame. It is a fine example of early 20th-century Jingdezhen famille rose landscape porcelain painting created for elegant interior display. The plaque has a strong porcelain body with a refined white glaze, decorated using traditional snowy landscape techniques. The artist used ink-style outlines to define mountains, trees, and architecture, while layered white enamel highlights create the effect of falling snow and a quiet winter atmosphere. The composition depicts a secluded winter retreat among mountains and streams. In the distance, layered snow-covered peaks disappear into mist, creating a peaceful and expansive landscape. In the foreground, snow-covered old pine trees surround a rustic scholar’s residence beside a stream. Inside the courtyard, a scholar sits by the window reading, while a woodcutter carrying firewood walks along the snowy path. The landscape, architecture, and figures combine to create a refined literati atmosphere inspired by traditional Chinese painting. The composition follows classical landscape principles of depth and balance, with elegant brushwork, subtle colors, and a beautifully rendered snowy scene. A long inscription appears on the upper right reading “雪餘孤萼寒猶歛,寫向屏山作畫圖。時在甲戌季秋月,許人何處畫于湓浦,” accompanied by two red seals. Penpu refers to Jiujiang, an important center for porcelain artists during the modern period.
