Provenance: Private Collection, California, USADescription: This ruyi scepter is crafted with a silver body covered in gold gilding and executed with the traditional imperial filigree technique, representing an auspicious ceremonial and decorative object in the Qing court style. Following the classic three-section ruyi design, the piece is divided into the ruyi head, central handle section, and terminal section, each featuring gemstone decoration. The cloud-shaped ruyi head is decorated with intricate gold filigree, forming an openwork dragon and phoenix design. The powerful dragon and graceful phoenix intertwine among scrolling clouds, creating a highly dimensional and lively composition. A large red tourmaline is set at the center, surrounded by smaller ruby accents along the edges, with the vivid gemstones contrasting beautifully against the warm gold surface. The elongated handle is finely woven with delicate gold wire forming a lattice pattern, bordered with bead-like chrysanthemum motifs. The central rectangular panel contains an oval tourmaline, while the terminal cloud-shaped section is highlighted with another large red tourmaline surrounded by smaller gemstones. The filigree craftsmanship is exceptionally precise, with carefully arranged gold wires, openwork detailing, and a strong three-dimensional effect. The reverse side is fully decorated with concentric circular filigree patterns, demonstrating the same high level of workmanship on both sides. The thick and even gilding produces a restrained golden glow. The original traditional hand-crafted tassel remains attached, connected with a yellow cord and Chinese knot, with red and blue woven sleeves covering the tassel ends, preserving the historical decorative style. The ruyi traditionally symbolizes “good fortune and wishes fulfilled.” The dragon and phoenix imagery represents harmony and prosperity, while the combination of imperial filigree craftsmanship and gemstone inlay reflects exceptional artistic quality, luxurious materials, and the refined aesthetics of Qing court decorative arts.
