Provenance: Private Collection, California, USA.Description: This elegant Longquan celadon vase represents the refined aesthetic of Song and Yuan dynasty ceramic craftsmanship. The vessel features a graceful dish-shaped mouth, a slender neck, a straight cylindrical body, and a stable foot. A pair of delicately molded phoenix handles adorns the neck, with the phoenix heads raised proudly and their curved forms rendered in a simple yet expressive manner. The handles include pierced openings, demonstrating the careful attention to both design and function. The entire surface is covered in a soft powder-blue celadon glaze, displaying a smooth, luminous texture and a calm, sophisticated green tone. Near the base, the exposed reddish clay body reveals the iconic “cinnabar base” characteristic of Longquan kilns, while the glazed interior preserves faint wheel marks from the original shaping process. Phoenix-handled vessels were among the finest ceremonial and display wares produced by Longquan kilns during the Song and Yuan periods. The phoenix motif symbolizes auspiciousness and prosperity, while the balanced form and pure glaze reflect the timeless beauty of classical Chinese ceramics.
