Provenance: Private Collection, California, USA.Description: These two Warring States period eye beads represent an important category of high-status ornaments worn by the elite during ancient China’s pre-Qin era and are significant examples of early Chinese glass craftsmanship. Both beads feature a rounded drum-shaped form with central perforations and naturally aged surfaces. The left bead is made with a deep green glass body, decorated with layered yellow-green composite eye patterns, yellow highlights at the centers, and small dotted bead ornaments, creating a rich and colorful surface design. The right bead has a dark gray-black glass body decorated with pale green concentric circular eye motifs, some enhanced with raised dot details, creating a strong relief effect and balanced composition. After centuries of burial, both beads developed a thick natural weathered surface, with areas of mineral erosion and aging to the applied colors. The pair presents a harmonious contrast in color and design, offering both historical importance and strong appeal for collectors of ancient Chinese glass.
