The mirror is cast in an elegant eight-lobed floral form with smoothly curved edges and a raised hemispherical knob at the center, featuring a pierced opening for suspension. The reverse is decorated with a powerful high-relief dragon surrounded by flowing auspicious clouds. The dragon’s body is strong and dynamic, gracefully coiled across the surface, with a raised head, open mouth, flowing mane, finely carved scales, powerful limbs, sharp claws, and a curling tail full of movement. The surrounding cloud motifs create a harmonious composition of a celestial dragon traveling through the heavens. The deeply carved relief, bold contours, and refined casting technique demonstrate the confidence and artistic achievement of the Tang dynasty. The reverse surface retains a dark ancient patina with natural green and brown oxidation, while the decorative details remain exceptionally clear. Large Tang dynasty cloud-dragon mirrors of this scale are extremely rare and highly valued for their craftsmanship, historical importance, and artistic significance.
