Description:This jar is a celebrated imperial Doucai porcelain from Jingdezhen official kiln of Chenghua reign, Ming dynasty. Elegant stout form with short straight mouth, full shoulder, rounded belly and flat base, fitted with original Doucai cover. The cover is painted with scrolling melon‑and‑foliage design. Below mouth rim and above foot runs formal doucai lotus‑petal border in red, yellow and green. Main body depicts vigorous blue‑underglaze dragon winding through leafy melon vines, accented by red streamers and tiny yellow blossoms. Enamel fills are precise: fresh green, bright red, soft yellow set against tranquil underglaze blue on lustrous white glaze with fine thin porcelain body. Base bears single‑character underglaze‑blue mark “Tian”(Heaven), the exclusive reign mark for Chenghua “Tian” jars. These jars were palace wares for storing precious medicine and aromatics. Surviving examples are extremely rare. This piece combines dragon and melon subject with refined painting and harmonious palette, representing the supreme achievement of Chenghua Doucai porcelain, of great historical and artistic importance.
