The elegant and balanced form represents the refined style of Jun ware used in the scholar’s studio. The entire surface is covered with a magnificent rose-purple Jun glaze, showing deep purple tones with subtle red highlights. The thick, luminous glaze has a soft and restrained shine, with fine crystalline specks across the surface and naturally flowing areas created during firing. The delicate transition at the rim reveals a subtle warm buff-colored edge where the glaze becomes thinner, adding to its visual sophistication. The foot is fully glazed and supported on five triangular firing spurs, leaving clear and precise marks that reveal the traditional firing technique. Jun ware is one of the most celebrated categories among the Five Great Song Dynasty Kilns, famous for its remarkable kiln transformations where “one color enters the kiln and countless colors emerge.” The rare rose-purple glaze represents one of the highest artistic achievements of Jun ware. With its elegant form, rich glaze effects, and preserved firing characteristics, this washer embodies the exceptional craftsmanship and aesthetic ideals of Song dynasty ceramics.
