Provenance: Private Collection, New York, USA.Description: This Song Dynasty Jizhou kiln meiping vase features a rolled rim, short neck, broad rounded shoulder, gently tapering body, and a sturdy foot, representing the classic form of Song Dynasty vessels used for wine storage and elegant display. The entire surface is covered with a deep black glaze decorated with dense yellow-brown painted dots arranged in layered circular bands from the mouth rim and neck down to the lower body. Known as the “starry sky” dot decoration, the pattern is carefully balanced yet full of spontaneous folk-art character. Some areas of the decoration display naturally aged gray-white surface changes, creating a striking contrast between the dark glaze and warm golden-brown dots. The exposed foot shows the original beige clay body, rough texture, and hand-finished traces typical of Jizhou kiln production. Complete examples with full-body dot decoration are uncommon. With its well-preserved form, distinctive surface treatment, and strong regional character, this vase represents one of the most expressive examples of Song Dynasty southern Chinese black-glazed ceramics, combining historical importance with strong visual appeal and collectible value.
