Provenance: Private,Collection, California, USADescription: This impressive Yue kiln celadon covered gui vessel is modeled after ancient bronze ritual vessels, featuring a substantial and powerful form with its original fitted cover. The domed cover is decorated with three sculpted curled beast finials and raised horizontal bands, while the glaze displays a beautiful network of natural crackling. The body has a wide mouth, waisted neck, rounded belly, and a sturdy ring foot. Symmetrically placed phoenix-shaped handles rise on both sides, with expressive heads and elegantly curled wings. The body is further embellished with applied beast-mask motifs and molded archaistic taotie patterns, creating a strong three-dimensional effect. Covered entirely in a deep gray-green celadon glaze, the vessel has a rich surface with natural ice-crackle patterns and an understated, elegant tone. The interior is glazed, while exposed areas show traces of aged earth deposits. The unglazed base reveals a robust ceramic body with reddish firing support marks, reflecting traditional Yue kiln production techniques. Combining applied decoration, molded ornamentation, and a monumental ritual shape inspired by ancient bronzes, this exceptional vessel represents the refined craftsmanship and ceremonial spirit of Tang dynasty Yue ware.
