Description:This circular blue‑and‑white porcelain plaque dates to mid‑Ming dynasty, intended for interior display or furniture inlay. Thick porcelain body covered with bright smooth glaze, bordered by double underglaze‑blue lines. The painted scene depicts Guanyin with worshipping boy. Seated behind carved balustrade, Guanyin wears ceremonial headdress with large halo behind head, serene facial expression and flowing layered robes. A holy water vase sits on lotus pedestal beside her. To the right are bamboo grove and bird; in lower‑left pond area, the adoring boy stands among blooming lotus flowers, rockwork and water plants, while floating clouds decorate upper‑left corner. The composition is well‑balanced with vivid figure rendering. The cobalt pigment shows characteristic mid‑Ming blue‑grey tone with varied ink wash effects, painted in free, expressive folk‑kiln style. Subject of Guanyin and the young devotee was widely popular in Ming Buddhist art. Surviving circular narrative porcelain plaques are relatively rare, combining religious significance and decorative aesthetic, with considerable historical and collectible value.
