Former private collection of William Cohen, Miami, Florida, U.S.A. Acquired from Hong Kong in 1960s, family descent. No prior public auction, publication or exhibition records. Description:This washer is a fine imperial‑ware example of Ming sacrificial‑blue porcelain. It features folded rim, shallow body and flat sandy base. The surface is covered by deep solemn sacrificial‑blue glaze with glossy texture. The centre is decorated with reserved‑white incised striding dragon: powerful dragon with sharp horns, manes and five claws stands out vividly against deep blue background, achieved by reserved‑white technique. Sacrificial‑blue glaze, also known as sapphire‑blue glaze, is one of the most prestigious monochrome glazes of Ming dynasty. Reserved‑white dragon decoration denotes high imperial rank, embodying royal vigour. The coarse sandy base bears natural aged earth erosion traces. It is a rare scholar‑studio treasure of Ming official porcelain.
