拍品描述
Dimensions: Diam. 44 cm (17 3/8 in), 14th‑century Yuan dynasty Condition & Provenance: Condition: Overall intact, minor historic nicks on rim, no major cracks or restoration. Flared rim, shallow body, broad unglazed sandy base. Central medallion executed in blue‑ground reserved‑white technique, depicting two phoenixes with outstretched wings amid chrysanthemum scrolls; central roundel encloses auspicious bird and floral motif. Inner well decorated with reserved‑white peonies against deep cobalt background; flared rim encircled by surging wave patterns. Rich saturated cobalt‑blue ground with sharply defined reserved motifs, this reverse‑ground technique represents one of Yuan blue‑and‑white’s most demanding decorative methods. Heavy thick body, sandy base bears turning marks, kiln grit and age‑related patina from centuries of handling. Provenance: Historic continental European family collection, acquired 1948, consigned for auction by family estate in 2026. Description: Monumental Yuan blue‑and‑white charger in rare reverse‑ground style. Paired phoenixes symbolize good fortune and prosperity. Blue‑ground reserved‑white production carried very high failure rates, reserved largely for imperial‑grade and premium export wares. This large example features sophisticated multi‑layered composition with respectable surviving condition. Comparable complete chargers are exceedingly scarce, conferring outstanding artistic and collectible significance.
