Description:This is a massive Ming‑dynasty jar with iron‑red ground and underglaze‑blue decoration. It has short straight neck, full broad shoulders, bulging belly and tapering lower body, presenting powerful and voluminous silhouette. The neck is adorned with scrolling foliage band, followed by upward‑pointing lotus‑petal frieze. The main body features rich interlocking lotus scrolls painted in underglaze‑blue set against vibrant iron‑red background. Twisting stems connect large fully‑opened lotus blossoms. The striking contrast between deep blue and bright red delivers strong visual impact. Another band of upright lotus petals decorates the area close to foot ring. The interior is covered with bluish‑white glaze. The base is unglazed sandy foot with robust ceramic body, bearing natural soil patina and wear marks typical for large Ming‑dynasty storage jars. The painting style is bold and energetic with dense elaborate composition. This red‑and‑blue decorative technique was technically challenging to fire and surviving examples are scarce. Boasting dramatic color scheme and monumental size, this jar perfectly embodies the grand aesthetic taste of mid‑Ming porcelain, standing as an important example of Ming‑dynasty polychrome large‑size wares.
