Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Description: This magnificent scholar's table screen is made of thick rosewood with a tight grain, deep color, and rich natural patina. The wide rectangular shape is decorated with multiple raised borders, intricately carved with lotus scrolls and simple geometric patterns. The carving is exquisite, with decorative motifs running throughout the entire border. The central panel depicts a scene of gods celebrating longevity in high relief, surrounded by clouds and mist, pavilions, verdant mountains, and lush trees, creating a richly layered picture. Each deity is dressed in magnificent robes, their expressions vivid, depicting auspicious scenes and symbolizing good fortune, longevity, wealth, and prosperity. The base employs exquisite openwork carving techniques, adorned with scrolling foliage, ruyi (auspicious cloud) patterns, and cloud-shaped supports. The openwork decoration cleverly balances the solid wood with the openwork design, while the back remains smooth, highlighting the natural beauty of the rosewood's grain. This masterpiece blends high relief, openwork, and fine line carving, making it a quintessential example of elegant traditional Chinese literati furniture and a prestigious choice for interior decoration.
