Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Description: This magnificent Chinese study screen is made of high-quality rosewood, with a deep, rich color and mature patina. It is structurally robust and elegantly shaped. The rounded edges of the frame are meticulously polished and inlaid with a natural marble panel. The marble's rich veining—deep green, charcoal black, and milky white—creates a majestic landscape of mountains, layered peaks, ethereal mist, and solitary peaks, resembling a traditional Chinese ink painting sculpted by nature's artistry. A red seal in running script in the upper right corner adds a touch of scholarly refinement to the piece. The base is exquisitely carved, adorned with classic meander and openwork scroll patterns, and supported by sturdy, balanced legs. This large screen cleverly blends the beauty of natural stone with traditional Chinese wood carving techniques, showcasing the elegant taste of Qing Dynasty interior decoration, and remains a model of Chinese literati furniture to this day.
