Description: This Northern Song Dynasty white-glazed vase with carved scrolling floral design is a large and exquisitely shaped piece of Cizhou ware, 51 cm high and 12 cm in diameter. It has a wide, flared mouth, a long and elegant neck decorated with raised horizontal lines, a full shoulder, a gracefully conical body, and a slightly flared foot. The entire body is covered in a white glaze with fine, natural crackle glaze. The shoulder is decorated with radiating chrysanthemum petal patterns, the carving clean and skillful. The vessel employs the unique carving technique characteristic of Cizhou porcelain, with parts of the white glaze carved away to reveal the grayish-brown earthenware base, creating a striking contrast with the restrained white scrolling vine patterns. The flowing vines, leaves, and flowers are arranged with lifelike realism and a strong sense of three-dimensionality, while the depth of the carving adds rich layers to the design. This vase, with its imposing size, bold carvings, and exquisite craftsmanship, showcases the unique artistic achievements of Cizhou carved porcelain, possessing both practical and aesthetic value.
