Some gilding has worn away, exposing the underlying bronze core. Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Description: This gilt bronze double phoenix decorative stand is 18 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, and weighs 884 g. Its U-shaped arch structure originally served as a support for large ceremonial or decorative items. Both ends are carved with phoenix heads, their heads held high, beaks sharp, crests prominent, and necks graceful, forming the upper arched frame. The entire surface is gilded and decorated with finely carved scrollwork. The flowing decorative work is exquisite, covering the phoenix necks and the main body of the frame. The lower part features symmetrical cloud-patterned feet, outlining an elegant and dynamic silhouette; a mortise and tenon structure at the center of the rear is used for connection with other components, showcasing the assembly craftsmanship. The bronze vessel is thick, with the remaining gilded surface displaying the natural wear and tear of time. The surface is covered with varying degrees of corrosion, including bluish-green patina and mineral deposits, with some gilding having peeled off, exposing the bronze base. The corrosion and deposits are more severe on the back and at the joints. With its exquisite craftsmanship, precious gilded decoration, and beautiful phoenix design, this piece is a high-level practical bronze artifact in ancient Chinese metalwork.
