Dimensions: Height 32.5 cm (12.8 inches), Mouth Diameter 3 cm (1.2 inches), 12th-13th century. Condition and Provenance: Overall in good condition, the glaze is well-preserved, retaining natural traces of kiln firing. The surface shows signs of age, and the exposed clay base reveals natural aging and mineral deposits. Provenance: Private collection, Hong Kong. Description: This Jizhou ware black-glazed "starry sky" plum vase is a fine example of Southern Song decorative ceramics. Following the classic plum vase shape, it features a small, flared mouth, a short neck and waist, rounded and full shoulders, and a gracefully conical body with a slightly flared base. The elegant contours create a slender and balanced form, resulting in excellent visual appeal. The entire vase is covered in a deep, glossy black glaze, exhibiting a rich sheen. Numerous tiny milky-white and light brown splashes of varying sizes and densities adorn the surface, resembling stars adorning the night sky, creating the unique "starry sky" effect characteristic of Jizhou ware ceramics. The natural, splashed-ink washes contrast sharply with the deep glaze, giving the vessel a unique and exquisite decorative quality. The glaze at the mouth of the vase exhibits a subtle brown transition, adding further depth. The exposed foot rim reveals a warm, beige clay body, dry in texture, neatly trimmed, and bearing natural traces of earth and wear over time. The inner wall of the base remains covered with black glaze. This plum vase, with its rich glaze, balanced proportions, and unique starry sky decoration, is one of the most representative and artistic decorative pieces from the Jizhou kiln of the Song Dynasty.
