Description: This Tang Dynasty sancai (three-color glazed) ceramic pillow is an outstanding example of decorative craftsmanship, combining openwork carving, relief carving, and multi-colored glaze techniques. The pillow features a classic waisted shape, square at both ends, with a slightly concave top for comfortable use. The overall shape is stable and symmetrical, with an exquisite structure. Both the front and back of the pillow are decorated with openwork carvings, with a deep amber glaze border surrounding carved auspicious mythical beast patterns. The central relief depicts a lifelike mythical beast holding a lingzhi (a type of fungus), surrounded by scrolling floral patterns, cloud patterns, and flowing water patterns. The openwork carving creates a strong three-dimensional effect, while the sculptural details showcase exquisite craftsmanship. Auspicious mythical beasts and floral patterns are decorated with tricolor glazes in green, yellow, brown, and ivory, presenting a rich and natural fusion of colors. The side panels are also decorated with openwork patterns, including four-petaled flowers and ancient coin motifs, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. The outer frame is glazed in a vibrant green, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding colors. This ceramic pillow combines various techniques such as molding, relief carving, openwork, and tricolor glazing, showcasing the elegant style of Tang Dynasty decorative art. Its exquisite patterns, auspicious symbolism, and naturally aged glaze make it an outstanding representative of ancient Chinese practical decorative ceramics.
