Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Description: This Longquan celadon scholar's water vessel, 9 cm in diameter and 8.5 cm in height, features a slightly constricted mouth, a rounded body, and a slightly narrower lower section. The upturned foot contributes to its compact and symmetrical shape, suitable for a scholar's study. One side of the foot is decorated with a figure wearing a bamboo headdress, leaning against the rim. The sculptural details are vivid and three-dimensional, adding a captivating artistic touch to the already elegant form. The entire piece is covered in Longquan celadon glaze, exhibiting a soft, pale green hue with a delicate and understated luster. The glaze on the rim is relatively thin, revealing a reddish-brown edge, a common firing effect in the "purple mouth" characteristic of Longquan porcelain. The glaze inside the vessel is even, clean, and delicate. The foot rim reveals a reddish-brown clay edge, while the bottom still retains the glaze, showcasing the natural fusion of the body and glaze, and bearing the marks of time. This small scholar's piece, with its simple celadon glaze surface paired with expressive molded decoration, embodies the refined aesthetics of Song Dynasty literati culture.
