This piece was originally a private collection of a renowned Hong Kong collector of Chinese antiques, acquired in the 1970s and passed down through his family. Description: This exquisite Yue ware celadon five-spouted vase is an outstanding representative of ritual ceramics from the Five Dynasties to the Northern Song Dynasty. Made specifically for sacrificial, funeral, and celebratory occasions, this piece embodies the exquisite craftsmanship and aesthetic achievements of Yue ware, qualities that made Yue ware one of the most renowned producers of early Chinese celadon. The vase has a straight mouth, short neck, broad shoulders, a gracefully conical body, and an exquisitely crafted foot ring. Five upright, tubular spouts extend evenly upwards from the shoulder, each adorned with a delicate floral design at its tip. A fan-shaped collar encircles the shoulder, outlining a harmonious architectural silhouette. The entire piece is covered in a lustrous celadon glaze, its soft color tinged with a pale olive green, showcasing exquisite crackle patterns naturally formed over centuries. The body is decorated with intricate lotus petal patterns, each petal meticulously carved, lending it rich depth and texture. The skillful and fluid carving demonstrates the exquisite craftsmanship of mature Yue ware porcelain. A subtle reddish tinge naturally appears at the mouth and spouts, further enhancing the warm luster of the glaze. Iron-rich deposits on the surface further attest to its age and authenticity. This elegantly shaped vase, with its refined celadon glaze and masterful carving, is an outstanding representative of early Chinese ritual ceramics and an indispensable treasure for any serious collector of Yue ware or early Chinese art.
