Dimensions: Diameter 11.3 cm (4.45 in), Height 5 cm (1.97 in) | Period: 12th-13th century | Song Dynasty | Condition and Provenance: Provenance: Originally owned by a private collector in Hong Kong, acquired from the Hong Kong antique market in the 1990s and held by the same family for many years. Condition: Comes with the original matching lid and base. The lid fits perfectly, without cracks, repairs, or missing parts. The celadon glaze is well preserved, with only slight signs of age and natural soil deposits on the edges and bottom, perfectly consistent with long-term preservation. Description: This well-preserved covered cosmetic box is a classic celadon piece from the famous Hutian Kiln of the Song Dynasty. Such cosmetic boxes could be used to store powders, perfumes, or personal toiletries, or as an elegant desktop ornament for scholars. The concentric wheel-throwing patterns are clearly visible inside the body, preserving the essence of the traditional wheel-throwing technique. The entire piece is covered with the unique celadon glaze of the Hutian Kiln, presenting a soft blue-green tone, with a smooth and translucent glaze surface. The arched lid is carved with a deer holding a lingzhi mushroom, symbolizing good fortune, prosperity, longevity, and luck. Delicate wave patterns surround the deer's body, and the recessed lines converge at a slightly darker glaze, creating a subtle visual depth and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. The lid and sides of the box are undecorated, highlighting the refined simplicity characteristic of Song Dynasty aesthetics. Along the recessed edges, a thinner glaze naturally reveals the underlying porcelain body, displaying a warm ivory color mellowed by time. The exposed foot rim showcases the delicate white porcelain body, along with the natural reddish hues formed during firing and the mineral spots accumulated over time. The interior of this cosmetic box is glazed, and wheel marks and slight signs of use are still visible. This wheel-thrown cosmetic box, adorned with exquisite carved patterns, is an outstanding representative of Hutian celadon, seamlessly integrating superb craftsmanship, practicality, and auspicious symbolism—an elegant work of art from the Song Dynasty.
