Description: This Tang Dynasty stone auspicious beast is a stone artifact from northern China, carved from a single piece of stone. The beast is depicted as fierce, baring its teeth, with outstretched ears, wings spreading from its shoulders, and powerful limbs. It crouches on a waisted lotus petal-shaped base with complete six-petaled lotus feet, a flat bottom, and a carved ribbon pattern on the back. This rough stone carving, presented with bold and concise carving techniques, emphasizes its raw power and fully embodies the grand and unrestrained style of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. This mythical beast statue holds folk religious significance in warding off evil and bringing good fortune, and is a precious physical specimen for the study of Tang Dynasty Northern Stone Carving Art. The patina it has developed over hundreds of years, naturally forming over time, further elevates it to a dignified and elegant work of art.
