Dimensions: Height 15.2 cm (5.98 in); Mouth diameter 3.8 cm (1.50 in); Period: 12th-13th century; Condition and Provenance: This vase is in excellent condition, with a clear hexagonal outline and distinct molded decoration. The glaze retains its luster and is intact, with only naturally formed cracks from age. There is slight wear on the mouth and raised edges, exposing part of the porcelain body, while the foot retains the characteristic firing marks and iron-red glaze of the Hutian kiln. No obvious cracks, defects, or signs of repair are visible. Provenance: Private collection in Hong Kong, acquired in the early 1990s and preserved to this day. Description: This elegant hexagonal vase is a prime example of Southern Song Dynasty celadon porcelain produced by the Hutian kiln in Jingdezhen. Designed for a scholar's study, it combines beautiful proportions with understated decorative beauty. The six-lobed mouth, slender ribbed neck, pear-shaped body, and six-lobed foot create a balanced architectural silhouette, reflecting the refined taste of Song Dynasty literati. Each of the six panels is adorned with exquisite scrollwork, featuring winding branches and leaves at the top and blooming peonies at the bottom. Raised ribs separate the panels, highlighting the sharp geometric shapes and adding depth and rhythm to the overall design. The body is covered in a translucent celadon glaze characteristic of the kiln, presenting a soft blue-white tone with a jade-like luster. The glaze naturally thins on the molded relief, emphasizing every detail of the flowers, while the deeper recesses retain a richer celadon color, enhancing the sculptural quality. Slight wear on the rim, naturally formed cracks, traces of buried objects, and kiln sand and flint marks on the exposed foot all contribute to the piece's authentic historical character. This vase, crafted with superb molding and meticulous polishing, embodies the understated elegance of Song Dynasty celadon, making it one of the finest examples of medieval Chinese porcelain. Originally used to hold a single flower or seasonal branch, it is an outstanding representative of Song Dynasty ceramic craftsmanship and the refined taste of literati.
