Description: This Song Dynasty Ding ware porcelain pillow is in a classic ingot shape with upturned edges, elegant and captivating. The front is decorated with a molded lion playing motif, the lions leaping and mane curving, exuding power. The back features a molded peony design, with intricately layered petals and a delicate layout. The entire piece is covered with a soft, milky-white glaze. A vent hole is present on the unglazed, rough base, a typical detail of Song Dynasty porcelain pillows. As one of the five great kilns of the Song Dynasty, Ding ware is renowned for its molded decorations. The lion motif carries the traditional meaning of warding off evil spirits, bringing good fortune, and attracting wealth. This pillow combines practicality with exquisite decoration, making it a model of Northern Song Dynasty white porcelain. All the patina and glaze wear are natural formations over hundreds of years, making its excellent condition extremely valuable to collectors.
