Dimensions: 16 cm (6.30 in) in diameter; 8 cm (3.15 in) in height, 12th-13th century. Condition and provenance: Excellent overall condition, well-proportioned and intact. The delicate scrollwork is still clearly visible under the bright celadon glaze. The rim shows natural aging cracks, slight signs of burial, and normal wear. The unglazed foot retains the natural reddening from firing, without cracks or signs of repair. Acquired in the 1990s by a private collector in Hong Kong. Description: This elegant celadon high-rimmed bowl is a prime example of the Southern Song Dynasty's Hutian kiln craftsmanship, combining beautiful proportions with exceptional practicality. The wide, flared body, supported by a slender waist and rounded foot, outlines a refined silhouette, reflecting the understated elegance of the Song Dynasty. Originally designed for formal banquets and elegant tea ceremonies, the central opening connects the two layers, allowing for the clever collection of food scraps, fruit peels, or tea leaves. The interior of the vessel is decorated with finely incised floral patterns. The flowing vines and flowers blend harmoniously, and the incised lines delineate the variations in glaze depth, creating subtle tonal layers that enrich the decorative effect without overshadowing the main subject, maintaining the simple beauty of the form. This piece is glazed with the unique celadon glaze of the Hutian kiln, presenting a bright and clear light blue-white tone. The glaze naturally thins at the rim, revealing the warm body of the porcelain. The exposed foot retains iron-rich firing marks, kiln sand, and natural deposits, telling the story of its traditional firing techniques and long history. This high-footed discarded bowl combines practicality and artistic beauty, embodying the understated elegance of Song Dynasty celadon porcelain, making it one of the most revered ceramics in Chinese art history.
