Description: This Yuan dynasty Jizhou ware painted plum vase showcases the unique white-on-brown painting technique of the Jizhou kiln. The vase follows the classic plum vase form, with a small, rounded mouth with rolled rim, a short neck, full shoulders, a gradually narrowing body, and a stable foot. The overall shape is powerful, balanced, and elegant, reflecting the aesthetic characteristics of Yuan dynasty ceramics. The entire piece is covered in a warm ivory-white glaze, meticulously decorated with brown and black pigments, while the rim is glazed in a dark brown, creating a rich and refined effect. The neck is decorated with a continuous meander pattern, while the shoulder is encircled by lotus petal patterns, interspersed with curling floral motifs. The entire body is covered with delicate cloud patterns, forming a dense decorative background. Four elegant four-leaf shaped decorations surround the body, outlined in striking dark pigments. The central decoration depicts a charming lotus pond scene, with two mandarin ducks frolicking among reeds and aquatic plants, rendered with lively and fluid brushstrokes. The ingenious combination of the decorative background and narrative motifs creates a balanced and highly decorative composition typical of Yuan Dynasty Jizhou porcelain. The lower part of the body is decorated with curling floral patterns, making the overall design cohesive. The unglazed foot reveals a rough clay texture and wheel-firing marks, showing signs of natural aging and surface wear. This plum vase employs the Jizhou kiln's white-ground polychrome painting technique, with a white glaze on the body, painted with iron-based pigments, and finally glazed with a transparent glaze and fired. Yuan Dynasty plum vases were used both for holding wine and as elegant interior decorations. This piece is well-preserved, with a complete form, rich decorations, and showcases the typical style of Jizhou kiln art.
