Description: This Song-Jin period Cizhou ware plum vase is a classic example of Northern ceramic art. Standing 44.5 cm tall, it possesses the typical plum vase shape: a small mouth, short neck, broad shoulders, and a slender body that tapers gracefully at the bottom. Its elegant proportions and tall stature embody the traditional function of large storage and display vessels during the Song-Jin period. The surface is decorated using the Cizhou ware technique of white glaze with black painting, creating a striking contrast between the warm white glaze and the heavy black brushstrokes. The shoulder is adorned with bold black horizontal stripes, while the body is filled with intricate diagonal floral patterns. The fluid brushstrokes depicting leaves and flowers, rendered with confident strokes, showcase the unique, unrestrained, and dynamic style of Cizhou folk ceramic decoration. The unglazed foot rim reveals the light grayish-yellow body, interspersed with iron filings, natural clay deposits, and wheel marks, preserving the authentic flavor of northern kiln firing. This large plum vase, produced at the Cizhou kiln site during the Song-Jin period, was commonly used for wine storage and interior decoration. The lush floral patterns symbolize prosperity and continuous growth, making it an outstanding representative of Cizhou painted ceramics from the Song-Jin period.
