拍品描述

Dimensions: Approximately 10.2 cm (about 4.0 inches) in diameter and 6.5 cm (about 2.6 inches) in height, 12th century. Condition and Provenance: Overall in good condition, with natural crackle glaze, well-preserved body, and visible kiln marks and age-related natural traces on the base. Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Description: This Goryeo celadon deep bowl inlaid with floral and butterfly motifs is a representative work of early Korean celadon craftsmanship. The bowl has a slightly flared rim, a deep, round body, and a short foot, resulting in a symmetrical and elegant overall shape. Its robust yet graceful form makes it suitable for use as a tea set, study furniture, or as a delicate decorative piece. The exposed foot reveals a grayish-green body, with clearly visible kiln rack marks and natural mineral deposits, typical characteristics of traditional Goryeo firing techniques. Both the interior and exterior are covered with a soft grayish-green celadon glaze, exhibiting delicate natural crackle patterns. The surface decoration employs the renowned Goryeo black and white inlay technique, with geometric meander patterns below the rim, interlaced floral and butterfly motifs on the body, and delicate chrysanthemum patterns at the bottom. The black and white inlay patterns were embedded in the body before glazing, seamlessly integrating the decoration with the glaze. The interior wall retains its intact glaze, revealing concentric circles left from the throwing process. Goryeo celadon represents the pinnacle of Korean ceramic art, developing a unique decorative language based on the traditions of Chinese celadon. The butterfly and floral patterns convey elegance, beauty, and auspicious meanings. This piece, with its well-preserved inlay decoration, exquisite glaze, natural crackles, and unique kiln-fired bowl characteristics, is an outstanding representative of Goryeo ceramic art and a rare collector's item.
