Description: This Northern Song Dynasty celadon melon-shaped water pot is a prime example of the exquisite molding techniques of the Hutian Kiln. Measuring 17 cm in height and 12 cm in maximum width, it showcases the elegant and natural style of Song Dynasty literati vessels and tea or wine sets. The body is melon-shaped with rounded contours and four lobes. A straight spout extends from one side, with a rope-like pattern. The handle is delicately shaped, resembling a vine. The lid is topped with a melon-shaped knob, creating a harmonious botanical theme. The exterior of the body is decorated with raised vine, leaf, and floral patterns that extend from the handle down to the body, creating a vivid three-dimensional effect. The simple foot and rounded body combine natural imagery with practical elegance, showcasing remarkable artistic creativity. The celadon glaze is soft in color with natural crackles. The handle, vines, leaves, and melon-shaped knob are all individually carved before glazing. The raised patterns are clearly defined, layered, and exquisitely crafted. The glaze maintains a semi-transparent texture, with a slightly deeper color where it accumulates, bearing the natural marks of time. Song Dynasty celadon often features plant and nature themes; this water jug integrates complex forming techniques, exquisite carving, and elegant glazing, becoming a piece of immense artistic value. The melon-shaped decoration symbolizes prosperity and the continuation of generations. This uniquely shaped and exquisitely crafted water jug, with its distinctive Hutian kiln characteristics, is an outstanding representative of Song Dynasty ceramic art and a highly collectible treasure.
