Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Description: This elegant mahogany kang table is low and rectangular, tapering at the waist, with carved cloud-patterned horseshoe-shaped legs and employs traditional Ming-style furniture construction. Measuring 120 cm long, 91 cm wide, and 32 cm high, this table was designed for traditional Chinese interior spaces and is suitable for raised tables, seating areas, tea rooms, and studies. This table adheres to classic Ming-style furniture aesthetics, emphasizing balanced proportions, simple lines, and exquisite craftsmanship. Its structure comprises a tabletop, table skirt, waist section, four legs, and reinforced bottom cross braces, all joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The tabletop features a traditional frame structure with a solid wood border surrounding the central panel, and the corner mortise and tenon joints are meticulously finished. The tabletop has a fine grain, a deep reddish-brown color, and a natural luster developed over the years. The narrow waist section and straight table skirt flow smoothly, embodying the elegant simplicity of Ming-style furniture design. The four legs are sturdy squares with inward-curving horseshoe-shaped bases. Each leg is adorned with delicate, symmetrical shallow relief cloud patterns, creating an elegant decorative effect without being overly ornate. Multiple cross braces are retained at the base of the legs, embedded within the leg frame, demonstrating traditional reinforcement methods used to prevent wood warping and maintain structural stability. This kang table embodies the essence of classical Chinese furniture, combining practicality with understated elegance. Traditional frame structures, cross braces, cloud patterns, and horseshoe-shaped table legs are all important elements of traditional hardwood furniture craftsmanship.
