Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Description: This Yue ware celadon vase is an important representative of early Six Dynasties Chinese celadon ceramics. Its beautiful, vase-like shape features a flared mouth, long neck, round belly, and foot. Standing 27 cm tall and with a mouth diameter of 7.8 cm, the piece possesses a powerful yet elegant form, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of early southern kilns. The vessel is decorated in three layers, incorporating raised decorative bands, small dot patterns, and molded animal-face appliqués. Two raised horizontal decorative bands adorn the shoulder, evenly distributed with dots, creating a balanced decorative border. The animal face is lifelike, with detailed depictions of the eyes, open mouth, and curly mane, giving the vessel a strong three-dimensional feel. The animal face image possesses a rustic charm, echoing traditional guardian animal motifs. The entire vessel is covered in a soft gray-green Yue-style celadon glaze, with dense, natural crackles creating a refined, antique texture. The restrained gray-green tone, subtle clay deposits, and soft luster endow this piece with a unique ancient charm. The unglazed base retains traces of early kiln firing. Yue ware porcelain represents one of the most important traditions in early Chinese celadon production, and vessels decorated with animal-face motifs are highly sought after due to their historical value, exquisite craftsmanship, and rarity. This porcelain piece is suitable for museum-level exhibitions, academic collections, and professional collections of Chinese ceramics.
