拍品描述

Dimensions: 29 cm (11.42 inches) wide, 65 cm (25.59 inches) high, 8th-10th century AD. Condition and Provenance: This vase is in excellent condition and comes with its original lid. The body of the vase has no structural cracks. Extensive natural silvering and weathering are visible on the low-temperature fired green glaze, with some glaze flaking. The animal head decoration on the neck and the floral relief on the body are largely intact, with minor ancient chips on the bottom edge. A naturally formed patina characteristic of its age is present. It has not undergone modern restoration or reglazing. Acquired by a private collector in Hong Kong in 2009, with original purchase documents and archival photographs in excellent condition. Description: This large green-glazed covered vase from the Tang to Five Dynasties period, decorated with animal head decorations and floral reliefs, is an important funerary ceramic piece from medieval China. This vessel is grand and imposing, with a pagoda-shaped lid, a narrow neck, and three-dimensional animal head motifs on both sides. The body is rounded and full, adorned with intricate relief floral, scrolling leaf, and pearl-string patterns. The high, flared foot is also decorated with floral designs. The entire piece is covered in a low-temperature lead-green glaze. Long-term burial underground has resulted in a thick, silvery-white lead-alum layer on the glaze, further enhancing its antique and elegant beauty. The animal head motifs symbolize good fortune, the floral patterns represent Buddhist auspiciousness, and the pearl-string patterns reflect the influence of foreign cultures, showcasing the fusion of Chinese and foreign art during the Tang Dynasty. Large green-glazed covered bottles from the Tang to Five Dynasties period, preserved in such good condition with complete relief decorations, are extremely rare. It provides important material reference for the study of low-temperature lead-glaze technology, funerary customs, and decorative arts during the late Tang and Five Dynasties periods.
