Description: This Song Dynasty Longquan celadon Guanyin statue is a classic example of Chinese religious ceramic sculpture. The statue is 26 cm high and 14 cm wide, with an elegant form and the warm, jade-like glaze characteristic of Longquan porcelain. Guanyin is seated in a meditative posture, formed from a single piece, with a cloud-shaped base. She wears a wide, hooded robe that covers her entire body, revealing only her chest, through which the unglazed terracotta figure underneath is faintly visible. The layered robes cascade naturally onto the base, its exterior adorned with soft cloud patterns, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The face is delicately sculpted, with slender eyebrows, downcast eyes, and a serene and compassionate expression. The layered hair buns and cloud-patterned headdresses are meticulously crafted, showcasing exquisite detail. The exposed clay reveals natural firing marks of a deep reddish-brown, contrasting sharply with the soft celadon glaze. Both the robes and the base are covered with a thick layer of Longquan celadon glaze, smooth as jade, with a soft luster and exhibiting crackles naturally formed over centuries. The sculpture blends molding, appliqué, carving, and exposed clay techniques. This Guanyin statue, dressed in a simple, flowing robe, contrasts sharply with the elaborate and ornate jewels, showcasing the refined artistic taste of Song Dynasty religious sculpture. Guanyin statues have always been regarded as symbols of peace, compassion, and protection, and are often placed in temples and private shrines. Complete Longquan ceramic Guanyin statues are extremely rare, and this piece is a perfect combination of ceramic art, religious connotation, and historical craftsmanship.
