Provenance: Private collection, formerly owned by a Chinese art collector in Hong Kong, now in the collection of a private collector in New York, USA. Description: This Jizhou ware white-ground brown-painted Yuhuchun vase is decorated with openwork lotus pond and mandarin duck motifs. Height 18 cm, mouth diameter 5.3 cm, it is a classic example of traditional Jizhou ware decorative vessels, combining multi-layered painted decoration and exquisite craftsmanship. The vase has an elegant shape, following the form of the Yuhuchun vase, with a five-petaled rim, a slender neck, rounded shoulders, a pear-shaped body, a gracefully conical lower section, and a circular foot. The overall proportions are exquisite and balanced, making it suitable for display and flower arrangement. The neck of the bottle is divided into several decorative bands by dark brown lines. The upper part is decorated with flowing scroll patterns, adorned with delicate scrolling leaves and vines; the middle part is decorated with geometric meander patterns, inspired by traditional Chinese motifs. The milky white background contrasts sharply with the dark brown patterns, creating a refined and orderly visual effect. The body of the bottle is densely covered with continuous geometric patterns, forming a rich decorative surface. Two symmetrical four-leaf foliage panels surround the main pattern, outlined with striking brown borders. The panels depict a tranquil lotus pond scene, with two mandarin ducks swimming leisurely among lotus flowers, reeds, rocks, and aquatic plants. The brushstrokes are vivid and natural, and the varying shades of brown give the scene a rich sense of depth and dynamism. This piece symbolizes a harmonious, loving, and peaceful life, a classic auspicious theme in Chinese decorative art. The body is covered with a layer of warm milky white clay, beneath which is a transparent glaze. The glaze shows soft signs of age, while the brown pigment remains stable and elegant. The exposed portions of the rim and foot reveal the original earthenware body with natural aging characteristics. The base retains traditional handcrafted ceramic details, including turning marks and signs of historical use. This unique and highly decorative piece is a coveted treasure for Song Dynasty Chinese ceramic collectors.
